An earthquake measuring 3.0 struck near The Geysers in the first minutes of Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake occurred about three miles northwest of The Geysers and seven miles west of Cobb. It hit at 12:23 a.m.

Small quakes are a nearly daily occurrence at the steam fields in northeastern Sonoma County and along the border of Lake County.

A 4.1 magnitude quake hit in the area on Feb. 24.

The Geological Survey classifies quakes of this size as minor, which means they are often felt in the immediate area but rarely cause damage.

More details about the seismic activity can be found at www.earthquake.usgs.gov.
