The Casa Grande High School Lady Gauchos fell into a deep hole early and just couldn’t quite dig all the way back out Tuesday night, losing their Sonoma County League opener at Analy, 56-45.

Petaluma High’s football team had a reason to celebrate after coming from behind to beat Casa Grande, 21-14, in the Egg Bowl, the No. 1 sports story for 2008.
2008 may be gone, but it will a long time before it is forgotten. While the world around them swirled in turmoil, local athletes stayed focused and successful.

While the economy tanked and school districts scrambled to find and then stretch every dollar, 2008 was a very good year for south county sports teams and individuals. The new year will not only bring many changes, but also many challenges, as teams and individuals attempt to match or surpass last year’s accomplishments.

Petaluma Mayor Pam Torliatt (top left) joined in the festivities at a team party to honor the Petaluma Valley Major Little League All-Star team. The mayor brought along proclamations from the City Council commending the team for its four tournament triumphs.
Christmas came early for members of the Petaluma Valley Major Little League All-Star team recently, and they were rewarded for being very good boys indeed.
